not since you left

Sweet nothings in the sun, all said and done, but if my world was a beach, then not since you left have the waves come. Your silhouette I still see in the distance, now your name is a passing mention, but its spelt out on post it stamps, drew your face on the palms of my hands, pillow talk in the evenings, all said and done, but my world is a beach, and not since you left, have the waves come. All the streets we walked hand in hand, pulling you close whenever I can, they’re not the same streets anymore, they don’t shine the way they did before, you made a man of a boy so weak, give me all the love I need, hopes and fears, all said and done, but not since you left have the waves come. All these things that I’ve been told, of time, of space and a love to hold, they’re stories, all tall tales, now they hold no truth no meaning, not since you left have the waves come back, and now I take small steps, and sometimes I hold my breath, to catch you from the corner of my eye, but you’ve long since been gone, and though you would not say why, I know your pain, only too well, promises and regrets all said and done, but not since you’ve been gone, have the waves come. Come back.
